Life Devoted to Others: Community gathers to thank retiring humanitarian Edward Katumba Wamala

Edward Katumba Wamala Appreciated by Community As He retires

Friends and family gathered yesterday to honor the distinguished career of General Edward Katumba  Wamala as he enters retirement after many years of public service.

At a podium with fellow military men, police officers and scouts, in the preamble of his 420 paged book thanked and acknowledged the commander in chief president Yoweri Museveni and the UPDF as an institution for shaping and professional growth.

Edward Katumba Wamala has worked tirelessly for over three decades to improve lives through his leadership in government and humanitarian roles.

The event, held at Hotel African provided an opportunity to reflect on Katumba’s numerous accomplishments and impactful work. He began his service to Uganda in the 1980s with the Ministry of Health, spearheading initiatives to strengthen primary healthcare across the country.

In the 1990s, Katumba took on the role of Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture, during which time he reformed agricultural policies and championed programs to boost food security and farmer incomes. He was later appointed Director of the National Drug Authority, helping to ensure availability of safe and effective medicines for all Ugandans. For the past 15 years, Katumba has led major international charities and NGOs working in Uganda, managing lifesaving projects in health, education, infrastructure and community development.

Under his direction, millions of lives have been positively touched. Those in attendance paid tribute to Katumba’s lifelong dedication, visionary leadership and compassion for others. He was hailed as a dedicated public servant and humanitarian who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to create opportunity and empower communities.

In his retirement, Katumba says he looks forward to spending more time with family and continuing his service through advisory roles and charity work on a smaller scale. He leaves behind an outstanding legacy of selfless contribution to national development and humanitarian causes.
