Kiira Municipality residents sacrifice land for road development, government applauds their selflessness

In a remarkable display of selflessness, the residents of Kiira Municipality in Wakiso District have been praised by the government for generously offering a portion of their land without any compensation.

Their noble act aims to facilitate the tarmacking of three crucial roads, with an estimated cost of Shs 59b.

Mayor Julius Mutebi Nsubuga of Kiira Municipality expressed his gratitude towards the residents, stating that over 80 percent of those in Kiwatule, Najjera, and Buwate have willingly signed consent forms.

These forms grant permission to the government for the construction of the Mbogo Cyprian Kizito road, commonly known as Kiwatule Kira Kiwologoma, and the Buwanju road, commonly referred to as Buwate Kungu.

World Bank-funded project focuses on Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area

These road construction initiatives fall under the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area Urban Development Programme, which is generously funded by the World Bank. However, it is essential to note that this project does not include provisions for compensation.

During the contract signing ceremony held at the Kira Municipal offices, Mayor Nsubuga enthusiastically announced that the contract for the road works was awarded to CHICO, a renowned Chinese firm.

With an expected completion period of 18 months, CHICO will be responsible for transforming these roads.

Majority of affected individuals show support through signed consent forms

The Municipal Town Clerk, Mr. Benon Yiga, revealed that an impressive 95 percent of affected individuals have already signed consent forms for the Buwate-Kungu road. Similarly, 79 percent of consent forms have been successfully collected for the Kiwatule-Kiira-Kiwologoma road.

These numbers signify the growing support and cooperation from the residents.

Local leaders praised for their efforts in persuading residents

Mayor Nsubuga extended his appreciation to the dedicated councillors and local leaders who tirelessly visited residents door-to-door.

Their persuasive efforts and personal engagement played a crucial role in encouraging residents to sign the consent forms, ensuring the smooth progress of these vital road projects.

Presiding over the contract signing ceremony, Minister Minsa Kabanda, the Minister of Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs, lauded the area leaders for their unwavering commitment and dedication.

Their collective efforts have been instrumental in ensuring the success of this significant infrastructure development.
