Alleged fraud by Arova Reality sparks controversy in Lira City

A youth group in Lira City has raised allegations of fraud against Arova Reality, a labor export company, leading to a heated debate. The group asserts that the company, promising job placements in various countries, collected a substantial sum of money from them in 2021.

The Minister for Gender, Labour, and Social Development, Ms. Betty Amongi, intervened in the matter following the group’s public outcry on a local radio station.

She directed Arova Reality to refund the claimed amount of Shs700 million to the affected youth, amidst growing accusations implicating her in the company’s operations.

Despite efforts to refund the money, the process faced obstacles as a significant number of claimants failed to provide proof of payment. Only a fraction of the affected youth turned up for the exercise, with limited success in validating their claims.

Continued discontent despite past reimbursements

Jafari Yosa, the general manager of Arova Reality, clarified that the company had already reimbursed genuine claimants in 2022 following unsuccessful job placements.

Despite previous investigations and reimbursements, the youth group, led by Frida Akello, persists in claiming that many members remain uncompensated.

In a bid to address the situation, Lira City West Police Commander, SP Geoffrey Omony, emphasized the importance of providing evidence to support claims of monetary loss.

The lack of documentation from most claimants has added complexity to the case, prompting a call for transparency and accountability in financial transactions.
