“Change of minds” as tortured NUP member Eric Mwesigwa visits defense offices

Mr Eric Mwesigwa a resident of Nansana in wakiso district who recently come out and claimed that security personnel burnt his chest with a flat iron luring him to tarnish government’s image yesterday made a u turn of his story.

Following his visit at the ministry of Defense and veteran affairs headquarters in Mbuya Mr Mweigwa told our reporters that he was lured into a hot deal from NUP officials and all these wounds had been imposed to him by the same group.

“The NUP members promised me a fee of Shs 50 million and a trip to the USA . They told me do what they are telling you . But I can assure you that even where I was residing they refused to pay the house rent ,” he cried out.

However Mr Mwesigwa failed to produce evidence to back his claims as we continuously interviewed him at Mbuya yesterday.

In addition Mr Kaddu Joseph who had accompanied his close friend Mr Mwesigwa further told our reporters that unnamed NUP members had also promised him a similar deal worth Shs 50 million this April 2023.

“…but after witnessing what Eric Mwesigwa went through when NUP members didn’t pay his medical bills , i with drew from this deal. So we are here to clarify about what happened,” Kaddu said.

It’s noted that earlier in 2016 Mr Kaddu had swore an affidavit in a private criminal torture case against ex police chief Kale Kayihura plus some other seven police officers while appearing at the magistrate’s chief court where he claimed that he was tortured by police officers-while dispersing Dr Kizza Besigye’s supporters in Kampala after the general elections.

However it’s on record that he later on withdrew his affidavit on claims that he was bribed with Shs 800,000 from private prosecutors plus an additional of 5 million after testifying in the case.

According to Brig. Felix Kulayigye the minister of defense and veteran affairs has criticized the opposition for parading people with bodily injuries and scars with interest of pining government.

“These elements have embarked on deliberate campaign to pin the government and attempt to isolate it at regional and international level as well as among the development partners using the usual rhetoric of human rights abuses and social economic challenges,” he stated.

When we contacted the NUP spokesperson Mr Joel Ssenyonyi he dismissed these allegations in pritex that it was an attempt by the government to cover up torture by security agents.
