Museveni by-passes iron sheets disgrace

Following the concluded State of the nation address, president Museveni remained silent on the ongoing Karamoja iron sheets scandal engulfing most cabinet ministers, many Mps were left disappointed and angry since they had hoped the president to condemn his ministers implicated in the saga days after he had reportedly directed the police to investigate the matter.

Mr York Alioni Odria the Aringa North Member of parliament had earlier led the calls for the president to address the matter as soon as he stepped out of the presidential car.

….”we want you to talk about the iron sheets and punish the ministers .We can’t allow this to pass silently ,” Mr Alioni shouted at the president.

However when the president finished his speech, he didn’t want to talk many issues as his focus was on PDM which made MPs to yell in unison “ironsheets”

President Museveni however asked them to report the issue to him privately and will engage them on it at a later time.

This didn’t go well as some MPs castigated the president for failing to address the issue himself as well as stating his position in regard to the censure of Lands State minister Namuganga Persis.

The Arua district woman Mp Ms Lillian Obiale Paparu told our media in angrily that the silence of the president on the scandals is too loud to ignore.

….. we expected him to address parliament about issues happening in the executive but probably he thought it wise not to talk about the now,” she said.

However Ms Paparu added that with the president’s silence Parliament has already set the ball rolling and will take action after the presidential Affairs committee completes its task of investigating.
