Entebbe Fishing Community Urged To Abandon Illegal Practices

Entebbe fishing community has received a stern warning against engaging in illegal fishing practices. In a bid to preserve the local aquatic ecosystem and ensure sustainable fishing, authorities have called upon fishermen to adhere to the regulations governing their trade.

This was during a function that was held at the Guuda landing site in Entebbe were the deputy resident district commissioner Ms Kakunda Jackline thanked the government for pardoning the fishermen and reminded them that the law against illegal fishing practices will continue to be enforced as she cautioned them against illegal fishing practices , transportation and dealing in immature fish.

Meanwhile local authorities emphasised the importance of combating illegal fishing practices in the Entebbe fishing community.

As a vital economic sector, fishing plays a crucial role in supporting the livelihoods of numerous residents. However, the sustainability of the industry is threatened by the prevalence of illegal practices, such as using prohibited fishing gear and exploiting restricted fishing zones.
