Government urges vigilance for road users during festive season

The government has issued a warning to road users in anticipation of the upcoming festive season. The caution comes as authorities seek to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals traveling on the roads during this period.

In light of the increased traffic and potential hazards that can arise during the holiday season, the government is urging all road users to exercise caution and remain vigilant. This includes drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists alike.

While speaking at the media briefing Mr Micheal Kananura the police spokesperson of traffic and road safety stated that the road safety in the country is already worrying with at least 12 people loosing lives in road crashes per day.

He further added that according to statistics at least 120 people were reported dead in road crashes during last year’s Christmas and new year’s festival period.

Meanwhile he emphasised the importance of adhering to traffic rules and regulations, such as obeying speed limits, using seat belts, and avoiding the use of mobile phones while driving.

It is crucial that everyone on the road takes personal responsibility for their actions to prevent accidents and maintain a safe environment.

Additionally, the government advises individuals to plan their journeys in advance, allowing for sufficient time to reach their destinations and avoiding the need for rushing or reckless driving.

It is also encouraged to take regular breaks during long journeys to combat fatigue and ensure alertness while on the road.

Law enforcement agencies will be actively monitoring and enforcing road safety measures to ensure

compliance with regulations. Those found violating traffic laws will face appropriate penalties and fines.

The government’s cautionary message serves as a reminder to all road users to prioritize safety and exercise responsible behavior during the festive season. By doing so, we can all contribute to reducing road accidents and ensuring a joyful and accident-free holiday period.
