Office of first lady announced on Thursday that Janet Museveni tested positive for COVID-19

According to a statement released by the Office, the First Lady Janet Museveni took a routine COVID-19 test which returned a positive result. She is currently asymptomatic and in good health.

As per COVID-19 guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health, the First Lady will now undergo a period of mandatory self-isolation at her home.

Contact tracing efforts are also underway to identify and test anyone who may have come into contact with her during the infectious period.

The statement reassured citizens that the First Lady is feeling well and remains in high spirits. It encouraged all Ugandans to continue following preventive measures like social distancing, proper hand washing, and mask wearing to curb the spread of the virus.

Janet Museveni, who is also the Minister of Education and Sports, is the most high-profile political figure in Uganda to test positive for COVID-19 so far. The East African nation has seen rising case numbers in recent weeks, with the cumulative total now at over 10,000 confirmed infections.
