Nabasa assumes office as UPDF’s third division commander

On Friday Maj. Gen. Don William Nabasa assumed office as the third infantry division commander of the Uganda People’s Defence Force.

Meanwhile his predecessor Brig. Gen. Joseph Balikuddembe handed over the office following a ceremony at Moroto army barracks presided over by the chief of defence forces Gen Wilson Mbadi.

Nabasa’s appointment comes a week in a mini military reshuffle done by president Museveni who is the commander in chief of the armed forces.

Following a statement issued by Maj. Isaac Oware who acts as the third division spokesperson said Nabasa would add a positive effort in consolidating the gains attained in pacifying Karamoja sub region.

“In achieving the end state a multi sectoral approach and integrated plan has to be embraced by all key players and partners,”added the CDF.

Meanwhile Maj. Balikuddembe, the man succeeded by Nabasa was selected to attend a strategic course at the National Defence College Uganda which is the highest military training institution in Uganda.

Mbadi said the Karamoja Integrated Disarmament Plan must be revamped and fast tracked to March the pace of UPDF in pacifying the region in Uganda’s north east.

Meanwhile Nabasa who previously commanded the military police thanked the leadership of UPDF and appointed authority for trusting him to execute the command control and administration of the third infantry division.

He guaranteed to work with all key stakeholders and maintain continuity to archive the tasks and missions at hand.

The resident district commissioner for Kotido and whip for commissioners in the Karamoja sub region Ambrose Onoria thanked the UPDF leadership for considering and honouring the region’s leaders request of deploying additional UPDF troops which he said will help to curb cattle theft in the non raiding community of Avon and Karenga districts.

In addition the chairperson of Moroto district local government Mr David Karyang urged full cooperation and coordination amongst joint security forces and stakeholders to avert crime and ease governance in Karamoja.
